| The site of SUNY Brockport began as the Brockport Collegiate Institute in 1841 and went through a number of transformations through the years. The school became one of the first state "Normal" schools for teacher training in 1866. Through the efforts of President Ernest Hartwell, the school became the Brockport State Teachers College and became part of the SUNY system in 1948.
