Opened on April 17, 1964, Shea Stadium was home to the New York Mets until it was closed at the end of the 2008 season. With a seating capacity of 55,300, the stadium was constructed at a cost of $25.5 million. The stadium is named after popular attorney William A. Shea who is credited with bringing National League Baseball back to New York after the departures of the Dodgers and Giants in 1957.
